For the first time, Google’s Android operating system has surpassed Apple’s iOS for mobile ad traffic, according to a new report from Opera Mediaworks.
After first overtaking Apple in terms of market share at the end of last year, Android in the first quarter jumped ahead of the company with 42.8% of traffic, compared with Apple’s 38.2%. The platform also is slowly increasing its mobile ad monetization, now accounting for more than 33% of revenue, up over 6% from a year ago. Among device makers, Samsung emerged as the clear winner in the Android devices market with more than 60% of impressions, followed by LG, Motorola, HTC and ZTE.
